Obituary
John Edward Rappold, 73, of Huntington, WV, passed away July 18, 2025, due to complications from an extended illness.
He was the son of Robert Joseph and Mary Thelma (Wheeler) Rappold. John was a graduate of Charleston Catholic High School and a 1975 graduate of Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in music history and literature. He was a former school music teacher for 19 years and a web designer/developer for SCOCA for 15 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bob” Rappold.
John is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Rappold of Charleston, WV, and brothers, Dave Rappold of Summersville, WV, and Tom Rappold of Charleston, WV.
John enjoyed photography, classical music, classic movies, and was an avid reader. But mostly, he enjoyed McDonald’s unsweet tea “with extra ice.”
John will be laid to rest during a private graveside service.

The Rappold Family lived across the street from my family, while I was growing up. John was a gentle, intelligent man with a witty sense of humor. Sorry that we’ve lost him. Much peace to Dave and his brother, Tommy and sister, Mary Ann.
