Obituary
John g. Asseff, 81, of charleston, passed away on tuesday, march 6, 2018 at the hubbard hospice house, charleston.
John was born on july 19, 1936 to the late william and saloomeh asseff.
He owned and operated john g. Asseff and associates insurance agency, charleston.
John was a lifelong resident of charleston and a member of st. George orthodox cathedral.
He was a 1955 graduate of charleston high school and received his b.S. Degree in mathematics from purdue university.
John was an avid sports fan. He spent most days watching basketball, football and baseball games. He loved cheering on his favorite teams and praying for a wvu win! Most recently, he enjoyed hearing about his grandkids athletic successes, along with their academic achievements.
He was also a member of the phoenician club and the optimist club in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, amelia strohmeyer, lorice bsharah and linda asseff.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, barbara; son, john michael (crissy) asseff of st. Albans; daughter, nickie (mark) welsh of columbus, oh; sister, lorene smith of fredericksburg, va; grandchildren, john michael asseff, ii, zachary e. Welsh, antony welsh, colton vanbibber and jessica scott.
Funeral services to honor john’s life will be held at 12 noon, friday, march 9, 2018 at st. George orthodox cathedral, lee and court streets, charleston, with the reverend father christopher eid, dean and the very rev. Father olof scott, dean emeritus, officiating. burial will immediately follow at sunset memorial park, south charleston, west virginia.
The family will receive visitors 2 hours prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in john’s memory to: st. George orthodox cathedral foundation, p.O. Box 2044, charleston, west virginia 25327.
