Obituary

Johnny m. Knisely, ii, 51, of charleston, died on tuesday, december 1, 2015.
He was a partner with goodwin and goodwin, llp, focusing on appellate advocacy, civil litigation, antitrust and class actions. He received the peer review rated distinguished by martindale-hubbell in 2012.
In addition to his work with goodwin and goodwin, johnny served as clerk to the honorable k.K. Hall of the united states court of appeals for the fourth circuit, and worked in the legal department for columbia gas transmission company. His career highlights included being principal author of “insider’s guide to the west virginia appellate courts,” and a chapter in the council of appellate lawyers. Johnny was a member of the fourth circuit judicial conference, the american bar association, and served as a board member on the west virginia commission for the deaf and hard of hearing.
He graduated cum laude with a b.A. In political science from fairmont state college in 1985 and received his j.D. From west virginia university in 1988, where he attained the order of the coif and served as co-editor of the national coal issue, west virginia law review.
John was the father of 22 year old twins, lawson and julia, who overcame extremely premature birth and of whom he was immensely proud. He was a genealogy buff, an avid reader of civil war history, and enjoyed hiking and cooking. He was introduced to pro football at the age of six and remained a steadfast member of steeler nation ever since.
He was preceded in death by his father, johnny m. Knisely.
He is survived by his children, lawson and julia knisely, and their loving mother, jill miles, his mother, carrol knisely, and his sisters rebecca jarvis and her husband ernie jarvis and barbara ann smith and her fiancã© pedro palmer. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, allie osborne, rachel wharton, andy jarvis, alex jarvis, nathan smith, carrie smith, nick donahue, and tim donahue, and great-nieces laken and kaylee, and great-nephew caleb. He is survived by his loving partner kathy laughlin.  
funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.M. On sunday, december 6, 2015, at the barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston with visitation beginning at noon.
There will also be a service at 1:00 p.M. On tuesday, december 8, 2015, at the domico funeral home in fairmont, west virginia, with visitation beginning at 11 a.M. Internment will be at the st. John’s united methodist cemetery, basnettsville, west virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the: march of dimes, 3508 staunton avenue se, suite # 2, charleston, wv 25304
