Obituary

JON MARC PYRTLE, of Charleston, passed away on May 24, 2024, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Anne Pyrtle, who passed away on September 21, 2021.

Marc had faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family takes great comfort to know he is having a reunion with his mother, a devoted, best friend, and absolute “superhero” to him. She was the source of love and encouragement which made him a model of strength and determination. Always polite and generous, he would lend a hand to any friend and strangers who were in need.

Marc is survived by his aunt, Harryette Ruth Pyrtle, of Charleston; and cousin, Claude Fleeman, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Marc was a graduate of Charleston High School, Class of 1988, where he played in the band, and a graduate of the University of Charleston, Class of 1992, with a BS degree, majoring in English and Journalism. To know Marc was to know that he had a large and pure heart. He cared deeply for others. He was a dedicated employee that worked at WCHS-TV for 20 years before leaving to work at his most recent job for the State of WV.

Marc had a love for books, writing, music, movies, concerts, sports, working out at the gym, and sketching portraits of movie stars and action figures. How proud his family were when he played the saxophone in the Charleston High School Band like his grandfather. He had a vast collection of CDs, old & new movies, and his love since he was 3 years old, comic books, especially Super Man, which most are collector’s editions. He was an animal lover and had 4 cats that are missing and love him dearly.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CAMC Memorial SICU.

He will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be later.

To honor his memory, please be kind to someone. Whether it be a family member, a co-worker, or a stranger.

“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” -John 3:16
