Obituary

Joseph saunders, 88, of handley, wv entered into rest at his daughter’s home in myrtle beach, sc on august 26, 2016.
He was born in collinsdale, wv on june 25th, 1928 to the late frank and eva (pettigrew) saunders.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, mary ann (nelson) saunders. Two infant children mary martha and joseph walton. A brother, bobby saunders.
Joe was retired from csx with 46 years of service. He was a deacon at handley baptist church. He was a veteran of the us army. He was a former member, chief, and a charter member of the handley volunteer fire department. He was an active citizen in the preservation and cleanliness of his community.
He is survived by his daughter pam (len) sloan of myrtle beach, sc; granddaughters amanda hudnall of myrtle beach, sc, abby owens of rock hill, sc; step-grandchildren, lauren (lee) nelson of durham, nc. Nick (kristyn) sloan, of myrtle beach, sc; three great-grandchildren, benjamin and paisley sloan and marleigh nelson; two sisters, frances legg, charleston, wv and nancy herget, ohio; nephew gary (anna) legg of charleston; nephew larry (sue) legg of charleston; nephew wayne legg of tampa, florida; nephew jerry ray (kelli ) of summersville, wv; niece marilyn (garland) carr of tampa, fl; niece judy (ernest) hare of tampa, fl; nephew chuck nelson of corpus christi, tx, and nephew chad (patty) of san antonio, tx.
The family would like to thank agape hospice services for their care and compassion during this tender time.
Per joe’s request a sunday evening service will be at 7: 00 p.M. At handley baptist church on sunday, september 4, 2016. His ashes will be entombed at the bloss family cemetery beside his sweet mary ann. Friends may arrive one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made to the handley baptist church, building fund, p. O. Box 70, handley, wv 25102. Joe loved his church family and spent much of his spare time in maintaining the upkeep on his beloved church.
