Dear Anne – Sorry To Hear About Vanns’ Passing. I Read About It In The Paper While I Was On A Plane Heading For Denver, So I Will Not Be Able To Attend The Service. I Always Enjoyed Working With Vann And Having Philosophical Discussions With Him. We Did Not Always Agree, But Were Always Able To Enjoy The Discussion And Part Friends. He Will Be Missed. You Have My Deepest Sympathy.
    Sincerely

    J. Vann Carroll Was A Smart Student And An Outstanding Engineer. Vann Was His Own Person, Did His Own Thinking And Was Not Easily Swayed By Propaganda Or Pretense. He Never Sought To Draw Attention To Himself But Rather Focused On How To Make Others Happy. He Loved Humor And Particularly Favored Puns. He Truly Matched The Famous Quote: €Œhis Life Was Gentle, And The Elements Mixed So Well In Him That Nature Might Stand Up And Say To All The World, €˜This Was A Man’ .€
