Obituary

Joshua Wayne Butts, 38, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on April 17, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1987.

Above all, Joshua’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Amber Butts, and their three daughters, Quinn, Vivian, and Alice, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his mother, Lori Butts; his sister, Ashlie Butts, and her family; along with many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will deeply miss him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Alice Butts.

Joshua will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his kind heart, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

I’ve know Josh since he was a young boy. I have pictures of him and my kids riding rides at an amusement park. He grew up to be a fine young man. My condolences to the family, Lori I know your heartache. I’m here if you ever wanna talk.

I attended the Academy with Josh. I had not seen him for 15 or so years until one day. I saw him on patrol inside sheets in Kanawha city. We got to catch up briefly over a cup of coffee. It was really good to see him again and doing something that he appeared to love. He was always a good dude. He was always down to earth in a place where it’s hard to be. I don’t know what to say other than he was a good dude and it’s upsetting that he is gone too soon. God bless his children and family.

  4. sorry for your loss, Amber. Prayers for you and your family.
