Obituary

Karela Rendl Blinco, 62, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

She was owner and operator of Head South Beauty Salon in Charleston and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a 1979 graduate of Dupont High School where she played in the band, sparking a lifelong love of music. She performed at many public and private events and was most recently an active member of both Kanawha Valley Community Band and Charleston Metro Band where she played the flute and piccolo. Karela attended St. Christopher Episcopal Church in Charleston and volunteered her services at area CAMC hospitals.

She was preceded in death by parents James William and Murline Campbell Sherwood.

Surviving is her husband, Tom Blinco of Charleston; daughter, Whitney Pennington of Charleston; son, Rev. Greg (Megan) Pennington of Charleston; sisters, Dorothy Ann (Jack) Hinkle of Summersville, Patty (Mike) Young of Cape Coral, FL, Jane (Matt) Barber of Charleston; grandchildren, Owen, Gabriel and Ethan; special cousins, Phil Sherwood and Twila Mitchell, and many other family and friends.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
