Obituary

Lance jefferson vaughan passed late friday night in charleston, wv, near his original home place by the old vaughan property. In his final hours he was surrounded by friends and family.

Lance was 72 years old at the time of passing. He graduated from charleston high school in 1963 and received his bachelor”˜s degree from morris harvey college. Lance went on to live and work in fort lauderdale, fl in the banking industry. In 1970, lance pursued his masters degree in industrial labor relations at west virginia university.

After completion of his master’s degree, lance worked for the wv division of commerce, wv state tax department, and then become the executive director of the wv industrial development authority. Lance later worked in private industry for charleston federal as the commercial lending officer. He continued his banking career in florida, ultimately retiring from bank of america in 2008.

In 1980, lance started his own business and built shop-thru market on washington street, in the east end of charleston. Shop-thru market was the first convenience store with a drive through window in the charleston area.

Lance had two states he called home, both west virginia and florida. Lance grew up spending time at his family home off of greenbrier street, on vaughan drive, as well as the family home in homestead, fl. In lance’s later years, he was a resident of largo, fl, but made many frequent trips to charleston, wv to see friends, family, and watch wvu mountaineer football.

Lance loved to entertain others. He enjoyed doing impressions, playing practical jokes, and telling stories (especially of his times at wvu). All those loved by lance had a nickname or series of nicknames.

Lance was preceded in death by his father, earl solomon vaughan; mother, bessie young vaughan; and siblings, frances stanard and byron vaughan. He is survived by daughter, vanessa vaughan defazio; son, lance vaughan; son-in-law, tim defazio; and daughter-in-law, natalie vaughan; grandchildren, ella and nora vaughan; and siblings, jean starbuck and deedy vaughan. Lance was also uncle lance, adored by his nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

The vaughan family would like to give special thanks to vicki vaughan for being instrumental in lance’s care and sparky adams and steve blankenship for their many visits with lance and lifting his spirits.

Memorial service will be held 2 p.M. Sunday, january 28, 2018 at barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston and lance’s nephew, vaughan stanley, will preside over the service. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

    Deedy And Jean€¦’So Sorry For The Loss Of Your Brother Lance. John, Joe And I Were The Younger Cousins That Would Come To Visit That Big Beautiful House On The Hill When We Were Kids. It Was Always A Big Treat To Go To Aunt Betty’S House. Lance Always Made Us Feel Welcome. I Had The Most Endearing Personality And Had A Way Of Making Everyone Feel Great.
