Obituary
Lance Macrae Roberts, 81, passed away in Charleston, West Virginia, on December 12, 2025, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
He attended Carl Sandburg High School in Palos Park, Illinois, where his excellence on the basketball court earned him induction into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022. He graduated from Dartmouth College where he played basketball and rugby. Lance was inducted into the Dartmouth Dragon Senior Honor Society. Later, he attended the Kellogg School of Business, Northwestern University.
Lance served his country with honor as a Captain in the U.S. Army, deploying to Vietnam and receiving the Bronze Star for his service.
A natural leader and entrepreneur, Lance built a successful career in financial services by founding, growing, and selling several businesses before concluding his professional life as a consultant to retirement plan professionals.
Lance is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Jackie Roberts, his brother Joel Roberts, and children Robert, Kerry, Stephanie, Eric, Tom, and Walker (and their families), twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was an avid golfer and was well known for his kindness, quick wit, and affable personality. He and his wife Jackie shared a passion for travel and adventure, and he took great pride in supporting her at every equestrian event in which she competed. Lance cherished summers spent on Lake Michigan, surrounded by family and friends.
A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held on March 14, 2026, at the Donel C. Kinnard Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, West Virginia.
There will be no calling hours.

Jackie, I am so sorry about Lance’s passing. From the time I first met him, he was so friendly and warm. I always enjoyed talking to him and his great sense of humor. I know that words offer little comfort in this time of great pain for you and your family, but you are in my thoughts and prayers.
