Obituary

Leonard Lee Canada, 74, of Charleston, WV, passed away September 3, 2025, after a short illness.

Born in Ohio and raised in Kentucky, Lee is the son of the late Catherine (Nevels) Canada. He was a soldier in the U.S. Army during Viet Nam and a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Lee retired from Wells Dairy, the makers of Blue Bunny ice cream.

Lee was a very technical-minded individual and considered himself a gamer. He loved anything technical, from gadgets to computers, even incorporating many technical features into his home.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lanna (Rhodes, Moore) Canada, and his brother, David Canada.

Lee is survived by his stepson, Robert Moore of Charleston; grandchildren, Caleb Moore (Holly) and Abby Moore, both of Charleston; one great-grandson, Logan Moore, also of Charleston; brother-in-law, A. Clark Rhodes of Charleston; nephew, Allen Rhodes of Elkins, WV; niece, Teresa McDonough (Steve) of Charleston; great nieces and nephews, Michael and Ryan McDonough, Shannon Marcum of Kentucky, and his beloved dog, Emma.

Celebration of life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV. Interment of ashes with military honors will be held at a later date.

  1. sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. I worked with Lee at Blue Bunny and was a great man and friend. Always willing to help where ever needed. RIP my friend and God bless

    So sorry for your loss. I was a co worker of Lee’s at Wells for over 20 years. He was so upbeat all the time. He told me great stories of his son & grandchildren through the years. He was a great friend & will be greatly missed. My thoughts & prayers are with the family, for peace & comfort.

    I am so sorry to the family for your loss. I worked with Lee at Wells for many years. Although we didn’t see each other often we talked on the phone often. We used to call him the unofficial Governor of West Virginia. Lee was a good man and a great friend he will be missed.
