Obituary

Lois Ann (Withrow) Douglas, 84, passed away on February 26, 2025. Born February 9, 1941, in Charleston, Lois lived her life in the Kanawha Valley, but enjoyed traveling with friends and family.

Lois was the third child of Oley and Gladys Withrow. She graduated from Washington High School in 1958. After school she worked at Purity Bakery in Charleston. Later, she worked at Jefferds Corporation in St. Albans for more than 20 years where she ultimately retired.

She met Ralph Douglas in Charleston at the Shoney’s Drive-In on MacCorkle Avenue. They were married March 3, 1962, and moved to Cross Lanes where they raised two sons: Stuart and Eric. She supported her sons in their endeavors traveling to Russia in 2010 with Eric. She loved time with friends including the annual trip to Amish Country.

Most would describe Lois as kind and thoughtful, but she was strong and determined, too. Lois loved to read, paint, draw and create most of her life. She volunteered to teach crafts at her local library and enjoyed participating in book club discussions. She was often in the garden tending to her flowers.

Lois was preceded in death by Oley and Gladys and her brother Dwaine. She is survived by Richard (Teresa) Withrow, Gail Withrow, Diane Withrow, Allen (Belva) Withrow, her children Stuart (Rebecca) Douglas, Eric (Beverly) Douglas, and grandchildren Ashlin and Jamison Douglas and Kaitlin Jordan.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to the Kanawha County Public Library in recognition of Lois’ love of reading, https://www.kcpls.org/about/support-the-library/donate .

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral home, Charleston.

Visitation begins one hour prior at the funeral home.

I met Lois when she started coming to our church several years ago, and she left a great impact on me and our community. She was a very loving, thoughtful, and creative individual and I’m so thankful I had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She always made me feel seen, and I greatly appreciated that. I missed her when she moved away, and am praying for her family.

  2. Eric,
I am in Florida and will miss the service for your mother who was one of my most favorite people-always a joy to work with.
My thoughts are with you, your brother and your families as you deal with your loss.
I will be thinking about you and I will trust that God will grant each of you extra strength to deal with the enormity of your loss.
