Obituary
Macel gladys goff smith, 89, of charleston, west virginia, fell asleep in death on february 8, 2014, at the hubbard hospice house.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, earl wesley smith, daughter teresa ann smith of santiago, dominican republic, son timothy earl smith of charleston, west virginia, nieces mona kay bush of scott depot, diane goff, sheila goff, and nephew dwight goff. macel was the last of six children of the late sam and mary means goff. Her siblings, walker goff, mildred goff white, dayton goff, dorothy goff schultz, and cabell goff preceded her in death.
Macel was an honor student at south charleston high school. She married her sweetheart in 1941 and they became known for always being together. she learned carpentry and enjoyed designing and building homes along with her husband. She also became very skilled in home decorating.
Macel was known for her practicality, lovely broad smile, welcoming hugs, and making all feel loved and comfortable in her presence. She affectionately called everyone “honey” and “sweetheart”.
To those who knew her well, she was known for her determination to serve her god faithfully. after dedicating her life to serve jehovah god and her baptism as one of jehovah’s witnesses in 1940, she became a zealous proclaimer of bible truths. She found great joy in doing so right up until her death. it was always macel’s desire to help clean up this earth and make it a paradise again. This desire was based on her strong faith on the bible’s promise of a resurrection to live on a paradise earth forever. This gave her the courage to face her illness and comfort those around her by telling her life stories about serving her god. Her last words were “i want to be faithful to jehovah.”
a memorial service will be held on saturday, february 15, 2014, at 2:00 p.M. At the kingdom hall of jehovah’s witness, 5018 lancaster avenue, kanawha city, west virginia. Friends may call at 12:00 p.M. Barlow-bonsall funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made to hubbard hospice house.
