Obituary

Margaret Jane Brison Plott, 96, a life-long resident of Charleston, WV, passed away on December 16, 2024, at her home. She was surrounded by her large and loving family.

Jane was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Brison Blankenship and Phyllis Brison; brothers, Richard Brison, William Brison, and Tom Brison, and son-in-law, Dr. Stephen F. Hutchins.

Jane was born in Charleston on June 30, 1928, to the late Margaret and Bryan Brison. She graduated from Charleston High School then studied nursing at St. Francis Hospital until her marriage to Ronald Stone Plott. She was a longtime member of Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church and greatly valued Pastor Dawn’s visits. Recently, Jane became Catholic with her daughters, returning to the faith of her mother and grandmother. She became a member of Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in 2023. Father Don and Sister Ida visited regularly bringing love and comfort to Jane and her family.

After raising four children, Jane attended the Storm Eye Center of the University of Charleston in Charleston, SC, before returning to WV. She was employed by Dr. Richard C. Rashid Eye Clinic at Thomas Memorial Hospital and worked there until her retirement.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Jane is survived by children Robin Plott Hutchins, Blair Plott Johe, Ronald Stone Plott, Jr. (Anne), and Christopher Lakin Plott (Denise), and grandchildren include Erin Hutchins Renkel (Dave), Megan Hutchins Queener (Josh), Andrew Brison Hutchins (Caitlin), Paul Johe (Silje), Adam Johe (Anne), Ann Johe Brooks (Eric), Emily Plott Rusniak (Alan), Rachel Means (Ron), Jake Dunlap (Tiffany) and Lakin Christopher Plott. Jane’s great-grandchildren are Hunter, Max, Jack, Sam, Silas, Nora, Henrik, Madeline, Riley, Ruby Jane, Rowan, Reed, Logan, Owen, Lincoln, Bella, Selina, Stella, Caydence, Kyler, and Hunter.

Jane is also survived by sisters Martha Brison Somerville and Janet Brison Connell (Lindy); brother, David Brison (Karen); sisters-in-law, Patty Brison and Judy Brison, and numerous nieces and nephews, along with much adored friends, Glen and Brad Reed.

Suggested donations may be made in memory of Jane to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, The Smile Train, or Doctors Without Borders.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1114 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV, followed by burial at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.

Visitation will begin one hour prior at the church.
