Obituary
Marjorie Ann Hoffman Steele — known affectionately (and sometimes fearfully) as Marge, Margie, Weezer, or “Marge in Charge” of Logan, WV — left us on June 13, 2025, at 83 years young, most likely because she decided it was time and didn’t want to wait around for a fuss. As she made perfectly clear many times, she didn’t want a service, a bunch of people making over her, or anything remotely resembling “mushy junk.” So, in classic Marge fashion, we’re keeping it short(ish), real, and on her terms.
Born to Jim Bob and Wongga Hoffman of Point Pleasant, WV, she spent a lifetime proving that she was always right (and she was, annoyingly so). Her brother, Sam Sprouse, passed before her and probably led her on her way to take charge. She married the love of her life, James Robert “Bob” Steele, who preceded her in death, likely to get a head start on organizing heaven before she arrived and started giving orders. (all things will be adjusted and placed correctly, of course).
She leaves behind her daughter, Dova (Robert) Ellis of Charleston, WV, who inherited her stubbornness, sass, and the bravery to parent three children: Max (Jordan) of Charlotte, NC, Kyle (Maddie) of Cleveland, OH, and Owen of Chicago, IL. They all knew better than to argue with “Marge”.
While they were her family by blood, Marge’s tribe extended far and wide. Her Steel Magnolias were more than friends — they were her sisters-in-spirit, sass, and coffee on the porch. Judy Meade, her sister from another mister; Wilma Zigmond, her lifelong friend (and partner in crime); Peggy Vickers; and the entire Shell and Hainor family who were counted among her people. The Manilla Church of Christ was her faith home, where she worshipped, served, and definitely let her opinions be known.
Her legendary spirit spreads, fierce hugs “for some” (that doubled as attitude adjustments), sharp comebacks, and perfectly timed eye rolls will be missed by her nieces, nephews, neighbors Donny and Cathy Wells (and their crew), and a long, long list of others who loved her — and probably have a unique story about her.
Marge was a force in every room she entered and behind every salon chair she ever stood beside. As a hairdresser, she didn’t just style hair — she listened, counseled, consoled, occasionally eavesdropped, and always gave her unfiltered opinion (which, frustratingly, was usually spot-on). If walls could talk, they’d still be trying to keep up with the stories she heard — and retold with flair.
In lieu of flowers, go make something with your hands, tell someone the correct way to do something, or take a nap — she’d approve of all three. Donations can be made in her name to the Manilla Church of Christ of Chapmanville or to any Hospice facility of your choice. She would be honored.
“Mom, you were one of a kind. Bossy, brilliant, and deeply loved. We promise not to make a big deal out of this (okay, maybe just a little).”
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.barlowbonsall.com.
Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

What a wonderful lady and so many memories! Ken, Kendra, Kenny Ray and I always knew she was part of Dova and Challis’s family just like we were. When she came here from Point Pleasant I don’t know if we adopted her or if she joined us. She always said she helped raise Wilma.
Dova Bob and boys she loved you dearly and her eyes would shine when she talked of you
Judy and I had coffee on the back porch today and shared stories of her
Marge was loved by so many and her memories will often be shared
