Obituary
Mary Ann Emily Proctor Galik, 80, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024, at home. She endured a long battle with breast cancer.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Proctor, her mother, Emily Kufeldt, her sister, Joyce Proctor, her brother, Jerry Proctor, and her son, Bradley Galik.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Morris (Christopher), and her grandchildren, Eva and Jeb, all of Charleston, WV. She is also survived by several first cousins with whom she grew up.
Mary Ann was born on D-Day, June 6,1944, at an Army Hospital in Paterson, NJ. She grew up in Mundelein, IL, where her first job was as a clerk at Diamond Lake Drug Store. She spent most of her career working as an accounting technician in the comptroller’s office for the Navy. As a young woman, she worked on her AA degree at MacCormac Business College in Chicago, IL. She attained her degree in 1992 from Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, FL.
In the years between her studies, Mary Ann traveled the world with her then military spouse. She made lifelong friends as only military families can. Her travels took her to Puerto Rico, Iceland, Spain, and Guam, where she found her love for the water, even learning to scuba dive. She was quite happy to never have seen a shark. Upon returning to the States, she settled in Pensacola, FL, where she finished her studies and completed her career. After retiring, she moved to Charleston, WV, to be closer to her grandchildren.
After surviving her first bout with breast cancer, Mary Ann volunteered for the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation in Charleston, WV, where she put her great organizational and sharp budgeting skills to work once more.
Mary Ann never met a stranger. She loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family whether it was a night out, playing cards, games, dinner, line dancing, crafting, movies, or Bunko. She loved her travels and the experiences they brought her. She loved having visitors and showing them the amazing sights where she lived. Anyone who visited Mary Ann knew immediately that she loved strawberries. Her favorite food, however, was lobster, and her favorite course was dessert.
Mary Ann will be cremated, and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Condolences may be sent to her family at www.barlowbonsall.com .
Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
