Obituary

Mary eloise pierson, age 102, of south charleston, wv passed away peacefully april 3, 2017.

She was the daughter of the late spencer ryan pierson, of clay, wv and anna (hudson) pierson of hanging rock, ohio and proud to be the second baby born in st. Francis hospital in charleston, wv on july 10, 1914. She was also proud that her mother had named her after mary eloise (hughes) smith who survived the titanic disaster in 1912.

Mary eloise attended catholic grade schools in huntington, wv and high school in cincinnati at sacred heart academy. She attended marshall and wvu, and spent one year at johns hopkins school of nursing and two years with the oss in washington dc under general donovan. She returned to charleston after wwii where she was office manager for dr. William rossman for 25 years.

She kept her interest in current events, as well as genealogy, the value of a good education, and her sense of humor.

Throughout her life she maintained an energetic devotion to animals, whether they were her pets or those that chanced upon her porch.

Upon graduating high school, her parents asked what she would like for graduation. She recalled, “i asked for a convertible or a german shepherd, knowing i wouldn’t get the car. I felt certain they would get me a dog.” she was sorely disappointed when she didn’t get either.

Mary eloise never lost her youthful voice, or her patient, kind and generous disposition. Never married, she leaves behind many cousins and friends who will remember her with love.

Memorial services will be held at the discretion of the family.

Burial will be in sacred heart cemetery, ironton, ohio, with her parents and sister, elizabeth.

My Heart And Deepest Sympathies To You And Your Family During This Difficult Time.  I Know The Heartbreak And Pain Of Losing A Loved One In Death So I Wanted To Take A Moment To Share An Encouraging Scripture That Gives Me Much Hope.  1 Corinthians 15:26 “And The Last Enemy, Death, Is To Be Brought To Nothing.”  When We Lose Someone In Death Our Heavenly Father Sees The Pain We Feel And He Promises To Very Soon Do Away With This Wicked Enemy Of Ours Once And For All.  And Then He Promises The Most Beautiful Hope, To Bring Back To Life All Our Dear Loved Ones And To Reunite Them With Us Again!  What A Beautiful Promise Of Comfort And Hope And How We Long For That Truly Special Day So Close At Hand.
