Obituary
Mary jelich hart, 76, passed away at her home with her family at her side on february 22, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mary was born in monongah, wv to the late stephen and josephine jelich on june 30, 1938. She came to charleston with her family at the age of 5.
Mary went to charleston catholic high school and graduated in 1956. She was a cheerleader for charleston catholic high school and was in the cchs school choir and participated in many musicals where she traveled with the school to perform.
Mary worked for c & p telephone company, and also worked for charleston catholic high school and woodmen of the world insurance.
Mary was in the beta sigma phi sorority in the 1960’s. Mary has been a devoted member of our lady of the mountains secular order of discalced carmelites since 1994. Mary was a lifelong member of the basilica of the co-cathedral of the sacred heart catholic church.
Mary volunteered at her church and at sacred heart grade school and charleston catholic high school among other places.
Mary loved the beach and the ocean and enjoyed the yearly trips to the beach with her husband and sons, and their families. She also loved to spend time with her husband and sons at their family farm in ritchie county, wv. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and nature. She loved collecting sea shells at the beach. Mary was particularly fond of bird watching and feeding
birds, especially hummingbirds.
Mary was a devoted, loving and selfless wife, mother and grandmother.
Mary was preceded in death by her son, roland francis hart, iii and her sister, anne louise jelich.
Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, roland francis hart, jr.; son, bret a. Hart and his wife, martina, and their four sons, patrick (19), gregory (17), thomas (17) and christoph (16); son, walter m. Hart, and his wife, tina and their two children, mary katherine (18) and sean (16); son, shawn s. Hart and two daughters, michelle (19) and taylor (16). She is also survived by her brothers, john, steve, frank, joe and tony jelich and her sisters, barbara jelich tyler and josephine jelich campbell.
Mass of christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.M., wednesday, february 25, 2015 at the basilica of the co-cathedral of the sacred heart, with monsignor p. Edward sadie officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The rosary will held at 9:30 a.M. At the church on wednesday.
