Obituary
Mary k. Whelan, 91 of charleston, formally of parkersburg, passed away on february 1 after a short illness. Mary was born april 18, 1926 in parkersburg, to the late peter and nina cassidy o’toole.
Mary graduated from desales heights academy in parkersburg and worked as a long distance telephone operator in long beach california during world war ii. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She loved painting and was dedicated to studying new techniques to improve upon her water colors. Mary celebrated all things irish and could spend hours talking about her life and her heritage.
She was preceded in death by her loving, husband, jim; and her son, paidric.
Surviving family members include: sons, dennis and kevin (linda) of plano, tx; daughters, kathleen dery (albert) of charleston and bridget (david) walls of asheville, nc. She leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service will be held 10 a.M., monday february 5, 2018 at st agnes catholic church, charleston, with father joseph augustine officiating. She will be interred at mt. Carmel cemetery, parkersburg.
The family would like to give special thanks to hubbard house as well as her caregivers, robin johnson and the great staff at loved ones in-home care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in honor of mary be made to: st. Agnes catholic church, 4807 staunton ave. Se, charleston, wv 25304.
