Obituary

Mary pesetsky of south charleston died peacefully at home tuesday, 22nd august, 2017, of acute myeloid leukemia. She was preceded in death by her husband, bernard pesetsky.

“˜mikki’ was born in 1936 in scottsboro, alabama to colonel william o. And mary shrader, and grew up in montgomery. She began medical school at the university of alabama before graduating from unc chapel hill with an ma in public health administration, a path which led to a lifelong career with the state of wv. After retirement, mary worked to serve the community as a board member for non-profits, then at st. Agnes school and h&r block, where she especially enjoyed helping elderly clients and was proud to gain enrolled agent status at the age of 80. Mary was fiercely smart, adored her grandsons, loved to travel, and will be remembered for her warmth, humor, generosity, and for her life-long passion for reading and education.

Mary is survived by daughters valerie austin of laurinburg, nc, lisa austin of charleston, and lisa (james) rivers, of orlando, fl, sons james (penny) of charleston and samuel (stephanie) pesetsky, of columbus, ohio, and grandsons benjamin and dominic pesetsky of columbus, ohio, james (crystal) pesetsky, jr. Of charleston, and several great grandchildren. The family expresses their thanks to kanawha hospice.
