Obituary

Mary Regina Cenatiempo Recco, 90, of Hansford, WV, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, after a short illness at her house in Charleston, WV, surrounded by family. She was born in Branson, MO, on February 23, 1935.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James Recco; her parents, Joseph F. and Reginia Hall-Cenatiempo, and brothers, Vincent and Francis.

Mary is survived by her sister, Rose Speaks of Schertz, TX; her children, Joseph (Brenda) of Maryland, Regina “Jeannie” Mason (Robert “Bob” Houts, Jr.) of Maryland, Rose M. Bird of West Virginia, and Ann M. Recco of Virginia; grandchildren, Jonathan, David, Maria, Joseph, Elizabeth (Mario), Elena (Christopher), Michael, Benjamin (Talita), Thomas (Natsumi), Rachel (Timothy), Andrew, Vincent, Nicholas (deceased), Alexander and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Jameson, Dominic, Viljar, Vincent, Isaac, Kathleen, Michael, Bradley, Penelope, Camille, Noelle, and a baby boy due in four weeks, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary R Robinson of St. Petersburg, FL, and brother-in-law, William J. Recco of Belle, WV.

Mary was a graduate of Pasadena High School. She and Jim met at Ellington AFB while Jim was completing navigator training. The two married in St Piux VI Pasadena, TX, on November 16, 1956, then moved to Hansford, where they lived for their entire marriage. Mary was a devoted wife and mother, very active in her children’s lives and parish activities. She was a skilled seamstress and extremely artistic.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Charleston, WV, with the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs officiating.

Visitation will begin one hour prior at the church.

Mary will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 5, at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV, next to her late husband.
