Obituary

With heavy hearts and enduring love, we announce the passing of Michael G. Holt, a man of extraordinary kindness and boundless generosity, who departed this world on May 24, 2026, at the age of 76.

Michael’s journey began on November 8, 1949, in Charleston, West Virginia, where he was born to the late George Holt and Jacqueline Godfrey. His life was a testament to unwavering faith, devotion to family, and a commitment to helping others.

Michael was predeceased by his beloved parents, George and Jacqueline, and his cherished daughter, Rachel. Despite these profound losses, he continued to shine as a beacon of strength and love for those around him.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marilyn (Surbaugh) Holt, who stood by his side with unwavering support and affection. Michael was the proud father of his daughter, Sarah Martin, and stepfather to Laura Kimble, Zeke Kimble, and Ryan Kimble. His legacy lives on in his nine grandchildren, each of whom carries forward his spirit and values.

Michael graduated from Charleston Catholic High School in 1967. He went on to attend West Virginia University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, equipping him with the knowledge and skills to embark on a successful career. He was the proud owner of The Designers, a sign company he nurtured for over two decades. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to work with Central Glass and Glass by Marilyn, where he left an indelible mark through his dedication and craftsmanship.

Beyond his professional life, Michael found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had passion for boating, exploring the great outdoors on a 4-wheeler, and basking in the tranquility of the beach. These activities brought him immense joy and peace, allowing him to connect with nature and the ones he loved. Michael was a man of honesty and caring. He was always willing to help anyone in need, offering a helping hand or a comforting word without hesitation. His deep love for his family was only surpassed by his unfaltering Christian faith, always thankful for every good and perfect thing thru Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Mike’s memory will live on in our hearts forever. In this life, he was truly one of the “Good Guys.”
