Obituary

Michael L. Neese, 72, of Charleston, passed away on May 24, 2025, at Hubbard Hospice House.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Charlene (Duensing) Neese, and his first wife, Scarlet Neese.

Mike is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Ann” Neese; his son, Christoper (Devon) Neese; daughter, Ashley Neese (Roderick Renkel), and two grandchildren, Scarlet and Charlie Neese.

Mike and Ann were preparing to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks.

A graduate of Ball State University in Indiana and University of Missouri, Mike retired from West Virginia University Institute of Technology. While at WVUIT, he served as director of housing, dean of students, assistant to the president and as interim director of athletics. He was in one of the first classes to graduate from Leadership West Virginia, a year-long program designed to instill leadership. He also retired from Mount Olive Correctional Center, where he served as a counselor. Plus, Mike worked with the Department of Education as an instructor. He was a past president and member of the Montgomery Rotary Club, where he was awarded the Paul Harris Award.

Mike was an elder at Montgomery Presbyterian Church and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Charleston.

Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Montgomery Memorial Park, London, WV, with Pastor Jim Smith officiating.

  3. Our condolences to Mike’s family. Two of our fondest memories of Mike are
    our first European vacation (1984), and our very first cruise (1992). What fun we had! Mike will always be in our thoughts and memories.
