Obituary

Alvin E. Preiser, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected business leader, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at the age of 96. Born in Charleston, WV, Alvin dedicated his life to his family, his community, and the family business, Preiser Scientific, where he worked for over 50 years. Alvin was instrumental in growing Preiser Scientific into a globally recognized leader in laboratory supplies and coal testing equipment.

He studied chemistry and received a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at Purdue University and maintained a lifelong passion for science, driven by his curiosity and enthusiasm.
He enjoyed watching sports, playing tennis and golf, and talking about politics. He was an avid Bridge player and loved investing in the stock market and collecting coins.

Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Gayle Preiser, who passed away in 2017. Together, they built a loving family and shared a lifetime of cherished memories. He is survived by his son, Larry (wife Kazue); daughter, Cathy Preiser Zeewy (husband Gady); grandchildren, Ken, Leo, Jessica & Melanie; all of whom he adored and took immense pride in. His family was his greatest joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
A dedicated member of B’nai Jacob, Alvin found a deep sense of faith and community throughout his life. His kindness, generosity, and steadfast support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia St. E, Charleston, West Virginia with Rabbi Victor Urecki officiating. Burial will follow at B’nai Jacob Eternal Home in South Charleston.
