Obituary

Michael Matthew (Matt Matt) Phillips, 33, of Sissonville, WV, passed away unexpectedly December 6, 2020.

Matt was a 2007 graduate of Sissonville High School. He was very outgoing, loved by many, loved life and lived life to the fullest. Matt was a born leader and role-model with a charm that left a lasting impression. He was so good-natured, as well as good looking. Family was first and foremost, a best friend to his sister and mother, as well as many others. He had many men who considered him their brother. He never picked a fight, but would stand up when challenged.

Michael was preceded in death by this maternal grandparents, Bill and Nedra Goehler; paternal grandparents, Elgene (Gene) Phillips and Faye Moss Burdette; and his uncle, Elgene Phillips Jr.

Left to cherish his memories are his father, Michael Phillips (Melony); mother, Gloria Phillips, whom he cherished and loved very much, of Sissonville; brothers, Jason Phillips and Justin Steele of Charleston; sister, Tara Phillips of Charleston; step brother, Joshua Fields of Sissonville; stepsister and best friend, Kandi Nelson of Sissonville; step grandmother, Patsy Good of Sissonville, whom he loved dearly. Matt had a special bond with his step mom, Melony Nelson Phillips, whom he loved more than anything as she loved him; nieces and nephews, Allie Reed and Chevy Phillips of Sissonville, Michael Reed of Charleston, Keirrah and Kashton Nelson of Sissonville and Braydon Phillips of Charleston; aunts and uncles, Sheila Haynes (Jeff) of Kenna, Kimberly Burdette of St. Albans, Ruth Chandler of Georgia, Cindy Ketner, Gary Goehler of Charleston; many cousins and friends who loved him.

There will be no service due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
