Obituary

Mrs. Charlotte Jane Lee Keller, age 85, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on July 3, 1941, in Charleston, WV, a daughter of the late Mathew Lee and the late Imogene (Peppy) Meadows Lee.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Claud A. “Punky” Keller; her two children, Ann Gandy (Bunky) of East Tennessee and Robert “Bobby” Keller (Sabrina) of South Carolina; her five grandchildren, Seth Gandy, Olivia Gandy-Richter (Dru), Briana Martinez (Kenneth), Dakota Thompson (Lora), and Emily Keller; three great-granddaughters, Chloe Bradley, Harley Tarte, and Rowan Thompson, and her siblings and best friends, Carolyn Lee-Short and Jim Lee (Helena).

She was preceded in death by another of her best friends, and baby brother, Tom A. Lee (Patricia).

Charlotte graduated in 1959 from Charleston High School, in Charleston, WV. She studied at Capitol Business College and retired from the West Virginia State Board for Professional Engineers.

She was a true embodiment of what it means to be a Christ follower, as she was a dedicated member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed studying the Holy Word, and particularly loved Romans 8:18: “For I reckon that  the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. ”

As an avid reader, she flipped through thousands of pages, covering a broad range of history, geography, political science, and thriller fiction. Charlotte loved digging into both books and her garden’s soil, where she planted Zinnia, Day Lilies, and Impatiens. She dreamt of living out her farm dreams on the golden hills of Yellowstone, which she never missed an episode of. She lived out those dreams with every trip she and her husband took up to her cozy cabin in the mountains of West Virginia. On these trips, she would work on one of her many quilting projects, or would turn on any of her favorite shows from The Food Network or HGTV. Yet, no cooking show could compete with her world-famous potato salad. She enjoyed cooking, but held a passion for watching coaches cook up game plays for the WVU Mountaineers or the Green Bay Packers.

Charlotte was a woman of few words, but she held genuine meaning with everything she spoke. She never let a sun set without telling her family how much she loved them, and always left a room feeling brighter with her jovial personality. If she didn’t tell you she loved you, she demonstrated her love through acts of complete selflessness. She would do without if it meant that you could have more. Her favorite saying, “Run ‘er slow” encompassed her perspective on life: to do what you can, when you can, and to bask in every second of life that Jesus blesses us with.

The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
