Obituary

On wednesday, april 5, 2017, myra lenore sawyers jarrett of the west side of charleston lost her 8 year battle with a progressive supranuclear palsy (psp).

Myra graduated with high honors with a master’s degree from wvu. Soon after, she became a therapist, then found her calling as a social worker for wvdhhr. In this position, she served the residents of charleston, wv for most of her life, helping countless children and families, and was an esteemed and dedicated employee. Myra was a lifelong member of ccum methodist church. She enjoyed reading, especially agatha christie books, and loved jane austin Ϭlm adaptations. She could often be found challenging her sharp intellect with cross word puzzles or relishing in an afternoon nap. She was a progressive thinker, ahead of her time with her willingness to understand and respect every individual, despite their differences or Ϭ‚aws. Her ability to listen without judgement, and to give clear and honest feedback, was respected and sought after by many. Her sass and strength were also defining characteristics of myra’s personality, which she exemplified until her last days.

Myra is survived by her husband of 46 years, james william (dink) jarrett. Their love, dedication, respect and affection for each other, over almost Ϭve decades, was both moving and admired. Dink’s altruistic care for myra during her illness, and her desire to always be by his side, is a testament to their true love.

Additionally she is survived by her sisters, judith crouse and rebecca hodges of charleston, wv; daughter abby ann rush, son in law michael brandon rush, granddaughter, allison ann rush (8) grand son gabriel michael rush (2) all of missouri and brother in law jeffery russe of florida. She will be missed by several close and loving nieces, nephews, in laws, and friends.

Myra was preceded in death by her mother, mary sidney beane sawyers and father, burl allan sawyers and brother , joe allan sawyers all of charleston and sister in law jean anne russe miller of pennsylvania. A special thanks to her caregivers, kim harvy and cindy lemare. Kim and myra became close friends and myra looked foward to their talks, back rubs, manicures, chocolates, and laughs.

Funeral service will be 1 p.M. Friday, april 7, 2017 at christ church united methodist, charleston with the rev. Dr. Jay parkins officiating. Burial will be held at tyler mountain memory gardens, cross lanes.

Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Dear Jim, Judy, And Becky: We Are So Sorry About Myra. She Fought A Trying Battle The Past 8 Years And, No Doubt, Did You All With Her. While She Will Be Missed, She Is In A Better Place. We Sincerely Regret That We Will Be Unable To Attend The Funeral Because Of Some Family Obligations.
Please Know, Though, That Our Thoughts Are With You.

Myra Was A Mentor To Me After She Hired Me Into Dhhr In 1991. There Are Social Workers That Are In The Business Because They Need A Job And Then There Others Who Truely Have A Passion To Improve The Life Of Others And The Community In Which They Live. Myra Was A Great Example Of The Latter And All Who Had The Opportunity To Work With Her Are Better For The Experience. She Will Be Missed
