Obituary

Shelia Marie (Ware) Sims, 73, of Charleston, WV, peacefully departed this earth on May 16, 2022. She was born in Charleston, on December 19, 1948, to Edward and Fannie (Jackson) Ware.

Shelia was educated in Kanawha County Schools, graduating from Charleston High School. After high school, she earned her B.A. in Elementary Education at West Virginia State College, followed by graduate studies in Education at Marshall University.

She retired after 36 years of service from AT&T and was the owner and broker of Lighthouse Realty Group.

Shelia started her Christian journey at St. Paul A.M.E. Church and later became a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. in Charleston. She served the church as a member of the Trustee Board, Senior Choir, Missionary Society, and the Lay Organization. As a member of the Pittsburgh West Virginia Conference of the Third Episcopal District, Shelia served as the Director of Lay Activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister, Lauranna Ware; and niece, Shannon Brown.

Shelia is survived by her brothers, James (Linda) Ware of Alpharetta, GA, Houston Ware, Richard Ware, and Jerry (Amanda) Ware, all of Charleston, Stephen (Karen) Ware of Sandy Springs, GA, and sisters, Deborah (Richard) Tyson of Houston, TX, Carolyn (Steve) Hairston of Charleston, Lisa (Rafael) Lugo of Alexandria, VA. She will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, and many caring friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 1108 2nd Avenue & Fitzgerald Street, Charleston, WV, with Rev. John Sylvin officiating. Shelia will be laid to rest in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, WV, following the service.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

    Resolution in Memory of Shelia Marie (Ware) Sims

    According to his tender mercy, God, who is infinite in his wisdom, has seen fit to move from our midst your beloved sister, Shelia Marie (Ware) Sims . We, the members of the Pittsburgh West Virginia Conference Ministers Spouses Widows And Widowers Organization Plus Preacher’s Kids are in support of our dear friends Rev. Carolyn and Steven Hairston, and the entire family of Shelia Marie (Ware) Sims, want you to know that our hearts and prayers are with you as you celebrate the life of your Sister, Aunt, Family and Friend. We are sure Shelia’s life, laughter, and legacy reached many as she was the essence of generosity with God’s love.
    WHEREAS we know that Sheila is no longer here, her tremendous gift of embracing family and friends as well as her ability to make everyone feel special will always be remembered. Her laugh, sense of humor, love for others, and contagious smile shall live on in your hearts forever. The joys of having a sister are experienced universally. Time passes and you can look back at all the times you were glad that you had that bundle of sunshine to keep you on your toes for all the best years. As you celebrate Sheila’s life today , reminisce, and share your stories that always make you laugh. There is no need to fill in any gaps; your sister lived it with you and took part in the memory making. Sheila has moved away from her earthly home ; you will miss your sister’s presence but believe in your heart and trust in God as you look forward to seeing her again on the other side. “ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27 NIV) THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the President, Past President, and Pittsburgh West Virginia MINISTERS SPOUSES WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS’ ORGANIZATION PLUS PREACHER’S KIDS family embraces you and your family. We know your loss is deep and your sorrow is great, but we want you to know that we share in your sorrow, but more importantly, we acknowledge that this loss is actually heaven’s gain. We will continue to pray for you and extend open arms for you to receive the love of our Heavenly Father.
