Obituary
Nadine Hope Holstein, age 73, of Ashford, WV, passed away June 1, 2025, after a short second battle with renal cell carcinoma.
She was born December 23, 1951, and grew up in Twilight and Turtle Creek, WV. She was a 1969 graduate of Scott High School, where she was Miss Scottonian, and attended Southern WV Community & Technical College.
Nadine lived the majority of her life in Boone County, WV, raising her girls in the Racine and Drawdy neighborhoods. In 1997, she met the love of her life, Terry, and moved to Ashford, WV, where she found her true home and was a valued member of the community. She worked for C&P Telephone Co., McJunkin Corp., Racine P.S.D., and Shawnee Hills Community Mental Health before retiring from Highland Hospital.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Pearl Dillon Workman; siblings Maxine Hunt, Dewey Workman, Mary Aileen Glenn, Delmer Workman, Shirley Workman, Nola Workman, Janet Bray, Rosetta Thorpe, Louella Thompson, and Joyce Workman; parents-in-law Thirel and Barbara Holstein, and brother-in-law Jerry Holstein.
Nadine loved spending time with her family and was a phenomenal cook who created the most delicious meals. She loved watching football and was a huge WVU and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She also enjoyed fishing, bingo, playing cards, spending time on the beach or by the lake, and tending to her beautiful plants and flowers.
Nadine is survived by her loving husband, Terry Holstein of Ashford, WV; daughters Julie (Bill) McCloud of Sod, WV, and Melissa Scott of Charleston, WV; grandchildren Allison (Codey) Jones, Aidan McCloud, and Anneliese McCloud; great-grandchildren Sydney Vance, Greyson Vance, and Hadley Jones; sisters June (Gary) Carter of Elkview, WV, and Nina Workman of Columbus, OH; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law Timmy and Debbie Holstein of Mt. Airy, NC; step-sons Christian (Jeannie) Harper and Michael (Trisha) Harper; step-grandchildren Robbie Harper and Candace Harper; many nieces and nephews, and a host of other beloved family and friends.
Nadine loved fiercely and was fiercely loved. She had a kind heart and was particularly proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed the relationships she fostered with them. Allison, also known as the Sug, was her best porch-sitting coffee-drinking buddy from an early age. Aidan captured her heart and they loved their talks about everything from sports to politics, each learning from the other. Anneliese amazed her with her musical talents and Nadine loved attending her performances and requesting songs for her to play. She dearly loved Sydney and Greyson and having Hadley next door brought her immense joy.
Nadine was very fortunate to receive care from many medical professionals who took extraordinary efforts to alleviate her pain and provide comfort.
Special thanks to Melissa and Allison who cared for her so selflessly, especially these past few months. May we all be so blessed to be treated with such love and dignity in our final days.
Our lives will never be the same without our precious wife, mother, and grandmother.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 14, 2025, at Ashford Church of God (Holiness), 231 Ashford-Nellis Road, Ashford, WV, 25009, with Rev. Randall Kinder officiating.
Visitation will begin one hour prior at the church.

Nadine was one of my 2 best friends in high school. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a sweet and beautiful girl in school and sounds as though she continued to be that way her whole life. We lost touch after high school, but I reached out to her in 2019 when I got her address from the organizers of our 50-year class reunion. I wrote to her, and she wrote me a sweet letter back. We touched base a few times after that on fb but not much. I was happy to reconnect with her after all those years. She was very special. I am so sorry for your loss.
