Obituary

Norman Andrew Dunlap, 83, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026.

Born on May 4, 1943, in Charleston, West Virginia, Norman spent his life rooted in the community he loved. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School and began his career as a sheet metal worker at the age of 17. A proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #33, he dedicated his working life to his trade, earning the respect of coworkers and friends through his exceptional work ethic, craftsmanship, and unwavering reliability.

Norman believed in giving back to his community. Throughout his life, he volunteered with fishery restocking efforts, the United Way Food Bank, and served as a volunteer police officer. He found purpose in helping others and took pride in looking after those around him. Whether lending a hand to a neighbor or quietly watching over his community, he embraced the role of a neighborhood guardian.

He had a passion for woodworking and enjoyed creating with his hands long after the workday was over. Those who knew him will remember his willingness to help, his steadfast faith, and his ability to sprinkle humor into even the most difficult moments. A devoted man of Baptist faith, Norman lived by the values of service, integrity, and compassion.

Norman is survived by his wife, Mary Dunlap; his daughters, Julie Davis and her husband, Marty Davis, and Lisa Dunlap; his brother, Darrell Michael Dunlap; and 16 beloved grandchildren, including Joshua Davis, Nicolas Dunlap, Andrew James Battle, and Ramyiahh Poole, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Dunlap and Junie Dunlap; his first wife, Bonnie Lou Dunlap; his son, Norman Andrew Dunlap II; his sisters, Geneva Wills, Pauline McIntoch, and Janet Blancit; and his brothers, John Allen Dunlap and Harold Dunlap.

In accordance with Norman’s wishes, there will be no formal life celebration.

Norman’s legacy is one of hard work, quiet service, steadfast faith, and love for his family and community. He leaves behind a life well lived and will be remembered not only for the things he built with his hands, but for the lives he strengthened with his generosity, guidance, and enduring sense of humor. His family hopes he will always be remembered as a devoted man of Baptist faith who never missed an opportunity to sprinkle a little humor into life’s toughest moments.
