Obituary
NORMAN ROBERT MARKS, 92, died peacefully at his home in Richmond, Virginia, on April 8, 2023.
He left his loving wife, Marsha of 68 years; children, Steven (Joan) of Poquoson, Virginia, Roger (Robbie) of Denver, Colorado, Debi of Richmond, and Karen of Denver; four grandchildren, Ethan (Elyse), Miranda, Daniel, and Amy (Max); and two great grandchildren, Joshua and Chloe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Florence Marks; and his brother, Harold.
Norman was born in Merrick, New York. He and Marsha were raised in Charleston, West Virginia, and were lifelong members of Congregation B’nai Jacob, where they were married. They started their family while Norman worked with Charleston Linen Service, part of a family business, Mohenis, of which his father was a founder. The family resided in Wheeling, West Virginia from 1963 until 1979. Norman was past president of Wheeling Linen Service, Temple Shalom of Wheeling, and the Wheeling Lions Club.
Norman and Marsha moved to Richmond in 1979 when Norman took a position in the corporate offices of the family business. Norman and Harold then became sole owners of Charleston Linen Service, which they operated until selling it in 1988. Norman continued working as a real estate agent until his retirement.
Norman was a graduate of Charleston High School and West Virginia University (where he joined Phi Sigma Delta) and a veteran of the United States Army. He was an active supporter of Israel and was awarded the Masada and David Ben-Gurion awards for his leadership in Israel Bond campaigns. He was an Associate Member of Hadassah. Norman delighted in his family and was dedicated to their education and welfare. His integrity was constant and his loyalty unwavering. In later years, while in declining health, Norman was able to live at home with the help of Marsha, joined by their daughter Debi for his last four years.
