Obituary
Opal russell, 85, of charleston, passed away at hubbard hospice house, charleston, after a long illness, with her family by her side.
Opal was a dupont high school graduate and a member of st. George orthodox cathedral.
Opal was a woman with many talents, but most of all she was a great wife, mother and grandmother.
Opal had worked as a sales consultant/stylist for stone and thomas department store, schwabe mae and geraniums. She dressed the women of charleston and beyond. She had a classic style and her clients trusted her honesty and integrity. She would not sell you something that didn’t look great on you. She had an uncanny ability to remember what her clients had in their closets, and was able to find things to add to their wardrobe. She also worked tirelessly each year for the symphony fashion show and modeled in the show for decades.
She was the founder of the beckley humane society and her passion for animals was out of this world. She loved all animals and most of her beloved pets were strays or humane adoptions.
She was preceded in death by her late husband of 58 years, george russell. They were true soul mates who are now reunited.
She is survived by her children; richard d. Russell, of charleston, wv, sharon russell castellano and husband, nicholas, of st. Petersburg, fl; and george russell, jr. Of charleston, wv; three grandchildren; chase russell, cristina castellano and nicholas castellano; great granddaughter, charli ann russell; her beloved cat, angel; and many friends.
