Obituary

Born on 11/7/31 to frances shelton roberts and osce p. Roberts sr. In birmingham, alabama. Osce and his parents resided in birmingham alabama in his early years and later in west point georgia. Osce was a football player, playing offensive and defensive tackle and on the kickoff team. His coach and math teacher said the school ran out of things to teach osce when he was 16 and shooed him off to college. Osce graduated from georgia tech, a true “rambling wreck”.

Osce married gwynne clack a high school sweetheart in 1952. Upon completion of his engineering and master’s degree the young couple moved to buffalo, ny where he started his career as a mechanical engineer designing chemical plants for linde corp. A division of union carbide. Osce and gwynne had 2 sons, michael & brian 2 years apart. Misfortune visited the couple when gwynne died in january of 1964 leaving osce a widower with two young sons. Raising his children was his greatest priority.

Four years later he met, courted, and married naomi meeker, a young air force widow with 2 children james and lisa. Osce & naomi’s relationship flourished for 44 years as they traveled the globe together taking great pride in being able to explore all 7 continents.

Osce was a bright overachiever who’s company recognized his contributions and continually gave him more and larger projects to manage successfully. He had top secret clearance and a number of patents on inventions he had developed. He was a team leader in the design, construction and testing of the early hyperbaric diving chambers. Opportunities came his way continuously.

Osce is survived by his children michael & brian roberts and james meeker and lisa sampson.

Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.M. Saturday, february 7, 2015 at st. Matthews episcopal church, charleston, with father john hagan officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church.
