Obituary
Patricia ann white doumaux, 79, died saturday afternoon in the charleston general hospital; due to a bad fall resulting in a severe head injury. Pat was born december 6, 1936 in canton, oh, the oldest child of howard henry and rosamond alma thorn white.
She graduated from lincoln high school in canton, in 1954 and from ohio university, in athens, oh, with a bs in chemistry in 1958. She received a woodrow wilson fellowship to attend the university of california at berkeley and graduated in 1960 with a masters degree in inorganic chemistry. After teaching chemistry at hartwick college in oneonta, ny for a year, her uncle in new haven convinced her to attend yale university and attain her doctorate in physical chemistry which she received in 1966. She met art at yale and they were married december 22, 1962 in canton, ohio.
Pat taught chemistry at the wv institute of technology for 30 years retiring in 1996 as professor emeritus of chemistry. She was known affectionately on campus as “dr. Doom”. She was an active member of the first presbyterian church in charleston, serving on several different committees. She was a member of the fort lee-tackette antiques club and a member of the “tribe” one of the ywca women’s aerobics groups. Pat was an avid gardener and will still be keeping art busy for years to come maintaining all of her hard work. She loved to travel. She looked forward to going to holden beach, nc each summer with her children, her brother henry’s family, parents and aunt bea white.
Patricia was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, philip e. White.
She is survived by her husband, arthur r. Doumaux; two sons, howard a. Doumaux (yi-hua tsao) and granddaughter, laura a. Doumaux of san diego, ca and son thomas c. Doumaux (melinda d. Kane) and grandson, william j. Doumaux of greenville, nc; her brother henry h. White, of canton, oh and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family thanks neurosurgeon dr. Lana d. Christiano, md for giving pat the best chance to live an active life and nuerologist dr. Samip j. Borad and other doctors and nurses in the general hospital nsicu for their compassionate care of pat.
Calling hours will be at the barlow bonsall funeral home, 1187 virginia street, e from 5 to 7 pm, friday, april 22. Her funeral will be at the first presbyterian church, saturday, april 23 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials for her be made to the first presbyterian church of charleston, 16 leon sullivan way, charleston, wv 25301. Burial will be at the forest hills cemetery in canton, oh.

She Was The Best Chemistry Teacher. I Learned So Much. Her Class Was The Foundation Of My Entire Career In Chemical Engineering. I Can Still Remember The Day She Came In Beaming With The News That One Of Her Professors At Yale Had Just Received The Nobel Prize. She Thought Us While Pregnant With Her First Child.
