Obituary

Paul Lawrence Woods, Jr., 70, of Charleston, WV, passed away October 13, 2025, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Born June 24, 1955, in Charleston, he was a graduate of Charleston High School, Class of 1973, and studied at Davis & Elkins College and West Virginia State University. Paul was a Golden Glove Heavy-Weight Champion for three years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lilly Mae (Phillips) Woods of Charleston.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Jayne (Davis) Woods; sons, Paul R. Woods of Charleston and Will (Sabrina) Stevens of Catlettsburg, KY; seven grandchildren; brother, James “Sparky” Hamilton of Dunbar, WV, and “the pack,” Cochise and Ziva, along with four cats.

Paul enjoyed playing golf and cheering on his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers. He loved music, especially classic R&B, but mostly, Paul loved his family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Paul’s name, to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 25, 2025, at The Father’s House Missionary Baptist Church at 500 29th Street West, Charleston, WV.

  2. I didn’t get to know Paul but he and me shared a lot of friends like Big Paul D. (RIHP)and from what I am told HE (your Paul) was top shelf and a grrreat friend! …My sincerest condolences and prayers go out to you and Family!
