Obituary

Phyllis K. (Griffith) Howell of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on September 17, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House. She was born on May 8, 1943, to the late William B. Griffith and Dana Ilo Griffith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Sue, Marilyn, Karla, Mary and Larry; and her father-in-law, Howard D. Howell, and mother-in-law, Juanita E. Howell.

Phyllis was a member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church, and for many years, Chesapeake United Methodist Church.

Phyllis graduated from Richwood High School in 1962. Her first job was working at the RC Bottling Plant in Richwood, and later in Charleston at Anchor Tobacco Company, Capitol Paper Company, and in her husband Bob’s law office.

Phyllis was a loving and caring wife, mother and Mimi. Phyllis loved to shop, including buying shoes, and traveling with Bob. Some of their favorite places to travel to were The Biltmore, Easton Mall in Columbus, Holden Beach, North Carolina, and Virginia Beach.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert P. Howell; son, Brandon (Tressie) and granddaughters, Saige and Bralee; two dedicated, caring and supportive care givers for the last 13 years, Margaret Payne and Bonnie White, both of whom came to love Phyllis and I very much; and many loving and caring friends.

Bob wishes to thank the excellent care provided Phyllis over many years by Dr. Thopsie Jagannath, and most recently, the ER staff at CAMC Memorial and in the CPICU Unit at Memorial. Special thanks to the staff at Hubbard Hospice House for the care and compassion they extended to Phyllis and I, and Bonnie over the past 16 days.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25306 or the Salvation Army, 301 Tennessee Avenue, Charleston, WV 25302.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, West Virginia, with the Rev. Don Toler officiating. Burial will be private.

Visitation will begin two hours prior at the funeral home.
