Obituary

Rachel alice lewis, 28, of charleston, passed away on monday, september 18, 2017 at the university of kentucky hospital, lexington, ky from medical complications after years of struggling with drug addiction.

Rachel was a lifelong resident of charleston and a member of st. Matthews episcopal church. She was a graduate of george washington high school and attended west virginia university. Rachel enjoyed tap dancing and music. She was a huge animal lover, with many pets of her own.

Rachel was a kind and loving person with a huge heart. She was a loyal daughter, sister and friend. She tried so hard to be there for others while fighting so many of her own internal conflicts. She was preceded in death by her father, brad lewis; and paternal grandmother, gwendolyn counts lewis. She is survived by her mother, maureen babcock lewis of charleston; maternal grandparents, henry and anna babcock of st. Albans; sister, madeline lewis at home; brother, alexander lewis at west virginia university; aunts and uncles tom and kim lewis of charleston, scott and kelly high of st. Albans, george and colleen denkins of hurricane, mitchell and nahla lewis of charleston and loren and lisa lange of wisconsin; and numerous cousins and friends. funeral service will be 1 p.M. Friday, september 22, 2017 at st. Matthews episcopal church, charleston with the reverend alan kim webster officiating. burial will follow at spring hill cemetery, charleston. visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.M. Thursday, september 21, 2017 at barlow bonsall funeral home, charleston.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the amazing staff at camc general and memorial who worked compassionately to care for her. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made in memory of rachel to: st. Matthews episcopal church, 36 norwood rd, charleston, wv 25314.
