Obituary

Raj Chandra Shah, 46, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of May 6, 2024. Raj was surrounded by loved ones as he received his heavenly healing and welcomed into his savior’s arms.

Raj spent the majority of his life in Charleston, WV, in the care of his loving mother always by his side. During his early childhood, he thoroughly enjoyed many Garba celebrations and functions within the Indian community and weekend game nights amongst close family friends. Raj loved everyone and always enjoyed any holiday or family gathering where he could delight in the company of others.

While Raj faced many obstacles throughout his life living with his disabilities, he proved that joy and laughter can be found in the most simple of things. Indulge in the decadent chocolate cake, move your body to the music and let it fill your soul, laugh hard and out loud at the things that amuse you—and care not of what others think. Live your life to the fullest of your abilities and remember our sweet Raj cheering you on while you do. May he finally rest in peace and dance his days away with his abled body in Heaven.

Raj was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nyalchand and Kantaben Shah, and Clarence and Ruby Bess; uncles, Mark Bess and Clarence ‘Sonny’ Bess, and aunts, Phyllis Myers, Linda Lutes, and Manju Shah.

Raj is survived by his father, Chandrakant Shah (Kim) of Charleston; his mother, Vicky Moore of St. Albans; sisters, Stephanie Shah Young (Jeremy) of Hurricane and Christine Moore of St. Albans; step-brother Christopher Scott Hunley (Tina) of Hurricane and step-sister Michelle Hunley of Charleston; nieces and nephews, Madelyn Young, Luke Young, Ariyah Cantley, Alexzander Hunley and Jackson Hunley.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Raj’s medical team, Dr. Viradia and Dr. Dave, along with their respective staffs who cared for Raj throughout his life. Additionally, the Valley Center in Charleston for their care during this last year and the Hubbard Hospice House of Charleston for their amazing care and compassion for Raj during his brief stay.

A heartfelt thank you to all family and friends for their constant visits and steadfast love.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with family and close friends.
