Obituary

Raymond Earl Orndorff, Jr., 74, of Hugheston, WV, passed away January 14, 2024, at CAMC Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Raymond “Bob” Orndorff and Verna (Myers) Orndorff of Hughes Creek. Ray spent his entire life on Hughes Creek, raising his family there, too.

Ray worked various jobs throughout his long life. He worked as a coal miner, tractor trailer driver, press operator at Charleston Newspaper, and was once the proprietor of Burger Cart in Smithers, WV. He was the much-loved grandfather of 10 much-loved grandchildren, who were the center of his universe. In his spare time, Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was skilled in the art of crimshaw.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Shannon (Huckoby); children, Misty, Ray, and Philip, and grandchildren, Alana (Josh Cantley), Joseph “Joey,” Morgan, Elizabeth “Beth,” Sarah Schoolcraft, Philip, Shannon “Shay.” Tyler Thibadeau, and Aiden Mand.

No services are planned at this time.

    Shannon, I’m sad and sorrow for what your going through, I can remember when he hauled me to powelton holler when you got together, Love you’ll and pray you’ll be ok, He was always a good man and loved by many.
