Obituary
Rebecca jane “becky” moss, rn, of charleston, a courageous woman of faith went home to be with her lord and savior, jesus christ on sunday, june 4, 2017. Becky had a servant’s heart and love for people exemplified in her 45 years of nursing. Becky had such a large group of friends too many to name and she truly loved each and every one of them.
Becky was born to the late garnett and thelma moss.
Becky was a caring and loving sister, aunt, and friend. She went above and beyond for others with her servant heart and never looked for anything in return.
Becky attended montgomery high school and graduated from west virginia tech in 1973 with an associate’s degree in nursing. She went on to new york university to obtain her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She started what was to be an amazing career at charleston area medical center on october 27th, 1975, where she remained employed in the nursing field for over 40 years. She received her master’s degree in nursing in 2006 from the university of phoenix.
A love of the nursing profession, and her desire to help others, inspired becky to amass an impressive list of accomplishments throughout her career. While at camc she was instrumental in helping to start the state’s first successful renal transplant program and at various times served as a primary transplant coordinator. She was part of a team that traveled to cleveland clinic in 1987, along with her lifelong friend and fellow nurse odessa richards, and trained in their nationally known transplant program. The pair then brought their knowledge back to camc to organize a similar program and train others in transplant nursing. Their expertise still guides the existing transplant program today.
The first west virginia state certified nephrology nurse, becky also organized and began the mountain state chapter of the american nephrology nurses association in 1987. She attended and participated in numerous nursing conferences and presented her research by invitation at national conferences several times. Becky was a founding member of the research council at camc and served as a hospital wide resource in education. She mentored hundreds of nurses, oversaw numerous policy changes fostered by her research, and inspired a love of the profession in countless individuals. She became a clinical level nurse ii in 1987 and a clinical level nurse iii in 1994. She obtained the elite title of clinical nurse iv in 1998 and was awarded the camc nurse of excellence for the organization based on her contributions to the hospital two times. In 2010, her professional and personal contributions in the field of nursing earned her the prestigious west virginia center for nursing excellence award.
Most recently, becky served as clinical management coordinator for 3 and 7 south at the general division. Known lovingly to many as “rebecca moss, rn “, she leaves behind a lifelong list of fellow nurses, doctors, and administrators who all benefitted in various ways from her professionalism, knowledge, and constant smiles.
Becky was a member of king’s way church of christ, where she taught sunday school classes, was a nursery worker, and helped to deliver meals to those in need.
She helped to care for the sick and her sense of compassion made her the perfect person to comfort the grieving when needed. Three times, she traveled to haiti on mission trips to administer health care and offer lessons in faith and healing to those less fortunate. Her loving nature was almost contagious and inspired others in countless ways. Becky was known for putting the needs of others before her own, and was expressing concern for others and offering encouragement to all in the days up to her passing.
She is survived by her brothers, john (karen) moss of gahanna, oh, william moss of columbus, oh, david (rosa) moss of hurricane and mark (bonnie) moss of gallup, nm; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, carolyn freeman, linda senters and sandy thompson; and brother, james moss.
Words cannot express the loss that has been felt by her family and friends.

I’M Met Becky Moss 41 Years Ago June 1976. I Was 16 Years Old. She And Two Other Employees At Camc Took Me Under Their Wings . Mrs. Smith From 3 Or 4 East And Mrs. Petry From 1West . Becky Was My Mentor And My Friend . There Wasn’T Anything That Becky Wouldn’T Do For Someone Else . I Was A Teenage Mom When I’M At Becky And There Were Days That I Could Not Afford To Have A Babysitter And I Had To Work At 3 To 11 Shift And She Would Allow Me To Put My Small Child In The Break Room And Sleep Until My Shift Was Over . I Left West Virginia Almost 25 Years Ago Although Becky And I Worked For 18 Years Together We Stayed In Touch And I Just Recently Spoke To Her At Christmas Time 2016 And Shortly Afterwards . When I Would Come Home To West Virginia She Joyce And Marty And I Would Try To Get Together For Lunch Sometimes It Was Just Rebecca And I. My Heart Is Broken I Love Her Dearly And I Know She Is With The Angels Because She Was A True Angel .
