Obituary

Rev. Harry palmer, 97, of charleston, w.Va., passed away on september 3rd, 2017. He was born dec. 18, 1919, to fred and ruth squires palmer in marathon, n.Y. After graduating from marathon high school, he attended houghton college where he met his wife, pearl burleigh. They were married in 1942 and moved to louisville, ky., where harry attended southern baptist theological seminary. Harry chose to preach in small town churches during his career. He led congregations in indiana, maine, new york, and west virginia. Harry was active in many community activities including volunteer fire department, boy scouts, red cross, community chest, council of churches, and aarp 55 alive. Harry and pearl loved to camp and led many church outings.

Harry was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, pearl; son, mark; infant daughter, ruth; and brother, howard. He leaves behind his son, bill and wife, lee ellen of texas, and daughter nancy and husband jim turley of w.Va. He is also survived by grandchildren jill and todd praisner, kelly palmer, stephanie and brad bierman, amy and jason scott, jd and sabrina turley, michael and rachel palmer, and mark david and dawn palmer. He is survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

A very special “thank you” to the staff of the ridgemont and arthur b. Hodges center for their care of harry. You truly are angels on earth.

A visitation is scheduled for september 5th at ashford church of god, from 4 p.M. To 6 p.M., followed by a memorial service at 6 p.M. The address for ashford church of god is 231 ashford/ nellis road, ashford, wv 25009.

A graveside service will take place in vernon, new york, in october.

    Please Accept My Deepest Sympathy On Harry’S Recent Death. He And His Late Wife, Pearl, Were Wonderful Christians. I Got To Know Them Both When He Retired And Became Active At Kanawha United Presbyterian Church. Please Know That You Are All In My Thoughts And Prayers.
