Obituary

Rhoda ellen turnblacer, 88, of flagler beach, florida, died july 20, 2014, at camc memorial hospital, charleston, west virginia.

Born june 13, 1926 in akron, ohio, she was the daughter of dr. Lorin beryl sebrell and ruth ellen tullis sebrell. She attended silver lake grade school and was a graduate of stow high school. She was a 1948 graduate of mount holyoke college, south hadley, massachusetts, and received her master’s degree in education from kent state university in 1969. She retired in 1987 from hudson public schools, hudson, ohio, where she taught for 28 years and was the first president of the hudson education association.

She was an accomplished pianist and organist and was the choir director at st. Mary’s catholic church for many years. After 38 years as a resident of hudson, ohio, she retired to flagler beach, florida and enjoyed playing tennis, travel, and time with family. She also indulged her lifelong passion for competitive bridge, culminating in a bronze life master designation.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, charles renaut turnblacer.

She is survived by her daughters, susan tunnell ( h. Rodney) charleston, wv, christine turnblacer, reston, va, sons, theodore (margaret) turnblacer, severna park, md, lorin turnblacer, arnold, md, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of camc memorial, 3 west, for their excellent care and support, and to the staff at edgewood summit retirement community and the arthur b. Hodges center of charleston, wv for the wonderful care provided to their mother. They would also like to thank the staff of camc memorial pulmonary care ward for their excellent care and support.

Mass of christian burial will be 10:00 a.M., saturday, july 26, 2014 at the basilica of the co-cathedral of the sacred heart in charleston, wv, with monsignor p. Edward sadie officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the alliance city cemetery in alliance, ohio.
