Obituary
Richard jackson runnion, 66 of charleston, wv went home saturday, october 17, 2015 at thomas memorial hospital after a long battle with cancer and heart disease. He beat all odds with his strong will.
Richard was born sept. 17, 1949, the son of the late herchel and garnett runnion of elkview.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, william and rettie runnion, joseph and eva brannigan; and nephew, john jones, jr. Of seattle, washington.
Richard joined the 130th international air national guard in 1968 and served six years. He had worked for the teamsters union for kroger warehouse in charleston and roanoke, virginia. After his retirement in 2001 he worked with the kanawha county board of education.
He was a real outdoorsman. Richard enjoyed his sports, played golf, hunting of all sorts. But
his passion was fishing. He told his doctors in cabell-huntington to make him well enough so he could go fishing one more time with his buddies, ed casto and rick strickland, who were faithful friends to him until the end of this life. Richard never missed watching a wvu football game. When he was unable to get out of bed because of his illness he looked forward to watching football. He enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters, who called him “pop-pop”.
Richard married his high school sweetheart and they recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. His wife, linda also became his caregiver and was always by his side.
Richard is survived by his wife, linda (humphreys) runnion of charleston; son, william joseph runnion (jody) of innwood, wv; daughter, lindsay n. Runnion of charleston (fly high daddy); sister, carol sue jones of arizona; his lost sister, terri sarrett; two granddaughters, rihanna marie runnion and amiah nicole runnion; special niece and his friend, cindy hanks of arizona, and two other nieces.
A private service will be head at a later date.
Special thanks go to his father-in-law, red humphreys and neighbor, gene perry, for all their help and support.+

I Did Not Know Mr. Runnion But I Know How Hard It Can Be To Lose A Loved One In Death So I Wanted To Say I Am Very Sorry For Your Loss. The Scripture That Has Given Me Comfort At Times Like This Is The One Found At Revelation 21:4 That Says, “And He Will Wipe Out Every Tear From Their Eyes, And Death Will Be No More, Neither Will Mourning Nor Outcry Nor Pain Be Anymore. The Former Things Have Passed Away.” So God Has Promised That In The Very Near Future We Will Never Have To Experience The Pain Associated With Death Anymore. I Pray That This Gives The Family Some Comfort During This Difficult Time.
