Obituary
Richard Stephen “Steve” Sutphin, of Marmet, WV, born January 14, 1953, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 11, 2024, after being ill for a long time.
Steve was a graduate of East Bank High School, Class of ‘72. He was the former Governor Prelate Treasurer, Jr. Governor at the Charleston Moose Lodge. He was a coal miner for Southern Appalachian Coal Company and a coal truck driver for Swain Coal Co. He also worked for WV DOT in Chelyan as a Supervisor. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time in the woods with his dogs by his side. Steve is known to many as the “Falcon of Marmet.” He lived life to the fullest and always took care of his family and friends. He will be extremely missed, but his life and the memories he has left with all of us will live forever in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arlis Sutphin.
Steve is survived by his wife of 10 years, Kim Sutphin; his son, Richie of Winfield (Missy); daughter, Heather of Martinsburg, WV (Greg); step-daughter, Brittany of Kanawha City (Mark); step-son, Scott of South Charleston, and grandchildren, Kendrick, Zackary, Mackenzie, Bryce, Rylea, Bryce and Brylee. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy of Spencer, WV, and Debbie of Nevada; his brother, Larry Lowe; mother, Nancy of Marmet; many nieces and nephews he loved dearly, and many friends he considered his family.
There will be no services at this time.

My prayers and condolences for Kim,Heather ,Richy and the family. He will be missed deeply by me ,Kim and the kids. It’s hard to take in that he has left us. You was one of my good friends and I will do what I can to keep your spirit with us my friend!
