Obituary
Robert “Rob” B. Monroe, 76, of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 25, 2025, after courageously facing several illnesses.
Rob was born and raised in Charleston. He was a proud graduate of Charleston Catholic High School (Class of ’66), where he met his future wife, Nancy. He went on to earn a degree in civil engineering from the West Virginia Institute of Technology. He dedicated over 30 years to the construction industry, many of those alongside his father, David, at Monroe & Son. Later in his career, Rob joined FEMA, where he found purpose in helping communities recover from natural disasters.
Rob was a devoted member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He found joy in reading, building models, and collecting unique items. Above all, he cherished his role as a grandfather to Morgan and Mena Monroe, delighting in every moment spent laughing and joking with them.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ethel Rock, and his parents, David and Carol Monroe.
Rob is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nancy (Linville) Monroe; his son, Phillip (Shawna), and his grandchildren, Morgan and Mena.
Rob will be remembered for his unwavering support, generous spirit, and a warm, jovial nature. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Those who knew him have lost a piece of their heart—but may find comfort in knowing that piece now rests in heaven.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 4807 Staunton Avenue SE, Charleston, WV, with the Reverend Phillip R. Szabo officiating.
Visitation with family and friends will begin one hour prior at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.
