Obituary
Robert “bob” perelman, jr., 92, of charleston passed away unexpectedly on tuesday, january 27, 2015 at camc memorial hospital, charleston.
Bob graduated from iowa state university with a bs in mechanical engineering and later earned an mba from the university of chicago.
Bob joined the navy and served on active duty from 1944 to 1946 with a top-secret team trained for underwater demolition (later called navy seals). When world war ii ended, bob was in okinawa preparing to invade japan. Bob was discharged as a lieutenant and spent many years in the naval reserves.
On january 30, 1945, he married the love of his life, pat, whom he had met at iowa state university. They were about to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.
In 1946, bob was hired by union carbide where he worked in many countries around the world before retiring after 40 years as a project manager. Bob was a very active member of christ church united methodist committees, conference delegate (20 yrs.) and lay leader (12 yrs.). He and pat served the united methodist “volunteers in missions team” to argentina and indonesia. Bob also volunteered when aarp formed a wv state office; he became the first state president, served as a legislative lobbyist and on the executive committee. He received the aarp community service award in two consecutive years. He was chairman of the wv long-term-care ombudsman advisory committee and has also helped small businesses through score (service corp. Of retired executives). He was also a certified professional ski instructor, and enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his wife; patricia “pat” joy baumgartner perelman; sister, lucille kerr of connecticut; and a granddaughter, nicole james.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.M. Saturday, february 7, 2015 at christ church united methodist, charleston, with dr. Randall flanagan, bishop william boyd grove, and dr. Janet flanagan officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be sent to the robert and patricia perelman memorial fund maintained by the united methodist foundation of west virginia, inc. Which is located in charleston, wv.

I Will Always Remember Bob As A Superb Project Manager. He Helped Us Tremendously With Several Of Our Eo Eg Projects. He Was Also A Great And Personable Friend. We Had Lots Of Fun In Alberta With A Great Project And Also Did Some Great Skiing.
