Obituary

Robert (bobby) thomas redmond jones, 29, of charleston, wv, passed away in salt lake city, ut, on tuesday, september 26, 2017, from medical complications, after years of struggling with drug addictions.

Bobby was a lifelong resident of charleston, wv, and a member of the charleston baptist temple. Bobby was a graduate of george washington high school and attended westminster college in salt lake city and west virginia university. Bobby was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to snowboard, snow ski, hike a good trail, and he loved to laugh. He would help others even when he couldn’t help himself! He had a big heart and when he was good, he was very, very good. He was a loving son, a loving brother and a loving soul. He was a christian.

Bobby had a world of friends that stretched across this beautiful country that he loved. He made lasting impressions wherever he went, most of them were good memories that you carry with you long after his voice was just a distance. He was a “hugger” and we’ll miss those big hugs but we know he is with our heavenly father, probably giving him a hug too. He fought a good fight and we all will cherish his lasting love, warm affection and bobby just being with us. Times were good when bobby was present. He didn’t pretend to be anything but himself, for better or for worse. He was an ambassador for wvu and wore his colors proudly. He found it engaging to others when they saw his flying wv.

Bobby was preceded in death by his grandfather, james david colby; his uncle, jeffrey david colby; his uncle, george willard “butch” pauley; and his beloved shelter dogs, banjo, who could sense bobby’s happiness, and cupcake, as well as his beloved cats, jagger and cleo.

Bobby’s surviving family are his parents, robert r. And jane colby jones; sister, colby jones; brothers, matthew (matt) and william (will) jones; maternal grandmother, betty “mimi” totten colby; paternal grandparents, robert h. “papa red” and wilma j. “mama wilma” jones; aunts and uncles, karen pauley of charleston, wv, james m. And karen colby of charleston, wv, dee stoffel of high point, nc, cynthia colby-axe and steve axe of chillicothe, oh; and numerous cousins, great-uncles and aunts, and a lifetime of friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.M. Saturday, september 30, at the charleston baptist temple. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.M. In the church sanctuary prior to the service.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during the time that our son tried to overcome his battles. Ln lieu of flowers, the family would suggests donations be made in memory of bobby to the charleston baptist temple, christian outreach, 209 morris street, charleston, wv 25301.

    Mr. And Mrs. Jones,
I Was Saddened To Hear Of Bobby’S Passing, To Say The Least, And Also Very Sorry That I Was Unable To Attend The Funeral Today To Express My Condolences In Person. Unfortunately, It Was Because I Had Another Funeral To Attend. Bobby And I Met At The Serenity Club Five Or Six Years Ago And Became Fast Friends. We Spent A Lot Of Time Together Playing Golf And Just Talking About Life And Recovery Over The Past Few Years. Whether He Was Winning Or Losing His Fight With Addiction, We Remained Close And Always Kept In Touch. He Was Like A Little Brother To Me. I’Ve Never Wanted Sobriety For Someone As Much As I Did For Bobby. I Was Relieved To Hear From Him Earlier In September And Know That He Was Still Fighting The Good Fight And Moving In The Right Direction. Needless To Say, It Broke My Heart To Read The News On Friday. I Can’T Imagine What Your Family Is Feeling At This Moment. Just Know That You Are In My Prayers As Well As Those Of The Charleston Recovery Community. I Hope To Meet You Both At Some Point To Express My Sympathies And Share My Many Fond Memories Of Your Son And My Friend.
    Sincerely,
    Tom Mainella
