Obituary

Robert Michael Allender II, age 69, of Huntington, WV, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, after a long illness. His beloved children, Rob and Felicia, were at his bedside.

Born in Arlington, VA, Robert lived in Stockholm and West Milford, NJ, until age 14. At that time, he moved to WV to attend Linsly Military Institute from which he graduated. He then earned his BA and MA in History from West Virginia University. After marrying his wife Jeannie, they moved to northern Michigan where he completed several years of active-duty service with the U.S. Air Force. During this time, they welcomed their son, Robert III. Also during his service years, he earned his second MA in Public Administration from Northern Michigan University.

As a family of three, they moved back to Charleston, WV. Soon after, they completed their family with the birth of Felicia. Robert continued on as a U.S. Air Force Major in the Air Guard for many years in WV. He enjoyed running many races in and around Charleston, including the distance run. He earned his third master’s degree in computer Science from Marshall.

Robert retired to Huntington, WV, after 30 years of service, working in the state Tax Department. He was a huge college football fan who enjoyed attending games at WVU and Marshall University. He inherited his mother’s incredible vocal ability and loved singing Hymns in church.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Anne (2019), and his father, Robert (1989).

Robert is survived by his cherished children, Rob and Felicia. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Robbie and Allie, and daughter-in-law, Kristin. He also leaves his sister, Susan; his former wife, Jeannie, and his step grandson, DeSalle Jenkins, to cherish his memory.

Service will be held in Charleston, WV, where Robert lived for many years and where he raised his family. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, WV.  A Celebration of Life service will begin at 5:00 p.m., with Pastor Kay Ann Albright of Bridges of Grace Church officiating.

He will be laid to rest on Friday, August 2, 2024, in Lawnwood Cemetery, Morgantown, WV, in the family plot with his father. Jenkins Funeral Home in Morgantown, WV, will provide burial services.
