Obituary

Rosalee Ann “Rose” Oatridge, 73, of Charleston, WV, went to be with the Lord on August 26, 2024, after a lengthy illness.

Rose was born in South Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late John G. and Annette DeRito Mazzella. She is the beloved wife of James “Jim” Oatridge.

She graduated from South Charleston High School, Morris Harvey College and received a Master’s Degree in Counseling from the WV College of Graduate Studies. “Rosie,” as everyone called her, has been a true blessing to family and friends. Among her family, she has been lovingly called an Angel of GOD with a heart of gold. Rosie and Jim have served the community for over 50 years in the Young’s Department Store.

In addition to her parents, Rosie was preceded in death by her Aunts Mary Zakaib, Tillie DeRito, and Linda DeRito.

Rosie’s brother, Jim Mazzella, and wife Sally; her nephews and nieces, Joel and Ashley Mazzella, and their children; and Ginger and Dominic Salamida, and their children live in Jacksonville, FL. Her cousin, John DeRito, and wife Connie reside in Charleston. Her nephews, Paulo Zakaib and Stefan Zakaib, wife Shannon, and their children live in Charleston. Rosie has many beloved cousins. Her life-long best friend has been Nancy (Miller) Burkhammer.

Rosie was living out her faith every day, reflecting her kindness and care to others. She took care of elderly relatives when they were in need and cared for her mother and mother-in-law. Rosie has been an encourager and friend to all who have worked closely with her. A lifelong lover of dogs and cats, stray pets often would find her. She would foster them until she found a home for each one. Over the years, Rosie and Jim have adopted many beloved dogs and cats.

The family would like to thank her very special caregivers-Pancha, Autumn, Tammy, and Albert, and the Staffs of Stonerise Rehabilitation Center, Select Specialty Hospital, and CAMC Memorial for their kind and loving support.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, 1118 Virginia Street East, Charleston, with committal service beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Cunningham Memorial Park at the upper Mausoleum Chapel, St. Albans, WV.

  1. Hey, Girl!

I’m sorry I missed your final days. I caught covid at our class reunion. I even had to miss your funeral. So I write to let you to know how much I miss you already. I think every day about something I need to tell you. Or something I need to ask you.

I comfort myself by thinking about the great times we’ve shared. The memory that stands out is the Fourth of July picnic in your backyard on Ohio Street. I think we were still in grade school. We were so stuffed we could hardly move after pigging out on your mom’s great food. But we were able to laugh and laugh while listening to the family tell funny stories. We were surrounded by Annette & John, Aunt Rosie and Uncle Dom, Aunt Linda & Darrell, Aunt Mary and her boyfriend, Paul. (They weren’t married yet.) I think brother Jim must have been at college.

Until now, you and I were the only ones left on Earth from that picnic. I comfort myself with visualizing “the tribe,” as you called the family, greeting you in Heaven. I’m sure they’ve been waiting for you to join them. You were always the light of their lives. You also brightened the lives of your friends and even the strangers you touched.

For almost nine months, you fought so hard to stay with Jimmy, Dr. Jim, Sally, Vic and me. We all wanted you to stay, but we couldn’t be disappointed that you finally grew tired and chose to beat us to Heaven. We pledge to live our lives so that our separation is only temporary.

Until we meet again, please know we love you for everything you’ve done for us and everything you are. You’ll always be my bestie. Thank you.

  2. Aunt Rosie has been an inspiration to me throughout my life. Her kindness, gentleness, love, and generosity have profoundly impacted me and my family. We are eternally grateful for the gift she has been to us. We pray for the Peace, Mercy, and Love of Jesus to encompass her and bring our dear Aunt Rosie eternal happiness and peace. She is greatly missed. We will try to continue in her example of living a life of love to all those around us, as she did. Prayers continue especially for you, Uncle Jim, and all those who mourn her loss, that the Peace of God will extend to you as you go through this sorrowful time.

With love and prayers— Ginger, Dominic & Family

  4. Rosie will be missed. Rosie and I played in our neighborhood on Ohio Street. I have known Rosie since first grade. I attended South Charleston High School one year behind. I road with her daily my first year at Morris Harvey College. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding. So many wonderful memories of Rosie and her family. She was always a kind and loving person. Memories of friendship are treasures to carry with you always. Praying that God brings you peace and comfort.

  5. So sorry to hear of Rosie’s passing. She was a godsend and blessing to the family. May she rest in eternal peace.
