Obituary
Ruby ellen mogill newman-peck, aged 97, passed away peacefully on january 2, 2018, in charleston, west virginia. Ruby was born in athens, alabama, to sol mogill and tillie (simon) mogill, and was the youngest of eight siblings. She was the beloved wife of the late benjamin newman, m.D., and the late alfred peck.
She is survived by her children, harold newman of charleston, stephen (joann) newman of elyria, ohio, and sara (michael) frank of west bloomfield, michigan; grandmother of jeremy (rachel), jason (joyce farley) and melissa (sariel birnbaum) newman, and daniel (marci), amy frank (ed mitchell); great-grandmother of elijah newman and ethan frank; and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was a longtime resident of charleston, active in many capacities over 70 years at b’nai jacob synagogue, at thomas memorial hospital where her husband ben was director of the laboratory, and with many charitable and civic organizations throughout the community. Her life was enriched by the loving care of her dedicated caregivers, sheri barker, terri estep, anna schultz and brandi goff and their families.
Funeral services will be held at barlow-bonsall funeral home at 3 p.M. Thursday, january 4, followed by a short graveside service at the b’nai jacob eternal home cemetery. Family visiting will be held immediately following internment, and throughout the evening, at the home of ruby peck.
